 Child Group - Principles guiding Action The goal in this pedagogy derived from Hjalli is to treat every child as a unique individual, and to recognize and respect the varied needs of different age groups, genders and individuals. The school will also honor the freedom of choice and diverse interests of the children, and see to their needs in an all-encompassing way. The principles and periods of action derive from the Icelandic gender-sensitive pedagogy of Hjalli. These principles and six periods in the cycle of the year have been implemented, applied and/or developed further with partners of the Allies project. Skills learned in each period are practiced not only in preschool and school, but also at home (see parents’ Newsletters in this manual).
