The NCRB closing seminar, Crisis Centres & Violence against Women, was arranged in collaboration with the Mother and Child Home and Shelter at Oulu and in Lapland. The seminar with close 100 hundred participants from the NCRB centres and outside, took place at Oulu on November 23-26 and at Rovaniemi on November 26-27. The invited lecturers were Margarethe Alnes, Norwegian Barents Secreteriat, Kirkenes, Carita Peltonen, Nordic Council of Ministers, Copenhagen, Marit Stemland, NFU, Steigen, Leila Räsänen, Finnish Council of Equality, Helsinki, Albina Pashina, Crisis Centre Yaroslavna, Moscow, Natalia Khodyreva, INGI, St. Petersburg, Cecilia Wickman and Monica Larsson, Women's Shelter at Umeå and Margreet Wegelin, Crisis Centre Toevluchtsoord, Groningen. Practices of immediate help and long-term transformative work were discussed through some 20 papers, which were presented at workshops on work with women clients, with children and adolescence, with male batterers, and on prostitution and trafficking and collaboration with local actors. The local crisis centres at Oulu and Rovaniemi were visited, and a demonstration for 'Women's Peace´ was arranged at Oulu on November 25 (See also the appeal). - A research seminar, which convened close to 60 participants, was held in collaboration with the NCRB research network and the Gendered Violence in Schools and Teacher Education network. |
