Study Method
There will be two different possibilities for the course participant to complete the pilot course:
- Including the practice exercise period: In Oulu (Finland) or in Göttingen (Germany) s/he may participate in the course under the guidance of the local mentor.
- Excluding the practice exercise period: S/he may complete the pilot course freely on the web under the guidance of the course content and the mentor from the University of Oulu.
The training course will consist of independent working periods on the web, working with the mentor (such as discussions about different themes as well as working on non-violence pedagogy) and cooperative working periods on the web. The practical part of the course will consist of the practical exercises made on the web and if included in the course, one practice exercise period. We have planned that the practice exercise period would concentrate in one or two of the following themes: a) preventing violence, b) supporting the victims and c) constructing non-violent school culture.
The Optima Discendum -learning environment acts as the students' and mentors' communication and co-operation channel in the course. Using the Optima -learning environment as a tool for students makes it possible for students, interested in the topic, to participate in the course despite the geographical distance.

Course Structure
The course structure is module based. Each sub-area (study unit/module) of the course consists of 1 – 3 themes that are divided into one or several sections. The sub-areas of the course are as follows:
- Introduction
- Gendered violence in everyday life in educational environments
A. Theme "Visible forms of sexualised and gendered violence in school life"
B. Theme "The more indirect gendered and sexualised violence and the more hidden forms of violence"
C. Theme "Violence affecting on school life but occurring outside the school"
- Surviving violence: The point of view of the victim of violence
- Enlargening the perspectives on violence
- The gender-sensitive pedagogy of non-violence and the building of the non-violent school culture
Each module consists of study material such as texts and pictures as well as possible video show(s), links and appendices for special interest. Exercises are included in every sub-area and built on the theme discussed.

Course Material
One part of the course material for the teacher trainees' course will be produced in this project and another part will be the existing material produced during our first Aware -project. The material for the web-based course for teacher trainees will be produced in the partner organisations in co-operation with the University of Oulu. The course material will be in English, but each partner can include additional study material in local language into the course modules. The modules will be transferred to the web and the content of the course up-dated by the University of Oulu.

Course Length
The course will take 3 months if the practice exercise period is included in the course. The course requires 2 credits (3 ECTS) students' workload to completion in the case that the practice exercise period is excluded. When the practice exercise period is included in the course, it will require additional 1 – 2 credits students' workload to complete the course.

Course Completion
To complete the course the participant needs to actively and independently go into the study material provided in the course, participate in the computer conference when suggested, do the exercises given in the course and when the course that includes the practise exercise period is in question, complete the exercise practice period as guided. To complete the practice exercise period the participant needs to apply the gained pedagogical knowledge to practice. For example, the participant will work with a group of pupils at school. The practice exercise period will last one month.
